New Pension System (NPS)

The state cabinet has given employees who are now covered by the New Pension System (NPS) the option of switching to the previous pension system. This option was made available to workers who were hired based on press releases released before October 1, 2005, but were unable to start on time owing to technological issues.

The cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, made this decision yesterday, which will benefit around 7,000 state government employees. Let us remind you that NPS became required for all personnel hired in the government from October 1, 2005.

However, about 7,000 personnel were hired after the aforesaid date but before the recruiting advertisement/requisition was posted on October 1, 2005. These employees were seeking OPS perks for themselves and had brought the matter to court.
